Minotaurs Lair
Constructed in 1893 according the the date stone at the outfall, Minotaurs Lair is an interesting little culvert in Accrington, it carries a small river known as tinker brook under approximately half a mile of farmland before exiting through its outfall in to the river Hyndburn. Its of brick arch construction at its infall before entering a section cut out of solid stone making it seem quite cave like, then in to another much larger brick arch leading down to its stone lined outfall. There is large amounts of debris including tree trunks jammed vertically inside the tunnel owing to the huge force of the storm water that rushes through here in flooded conditions, that along with the cascades and deep pools makes it quite tricky taking photos inside.
