Blackburn Fire Station
Blackburn Fire Station was first opened on the 8th of December 1921. The site consists of offices, workshops, a car park and a 60ft high training tower. The station originally also included residences for officers aswell as 33 cottages intended to house firefighters. The station was closed in March 2012 when the fire service moved its HQ to a state of the art, purpose built premises directly facing the old building. The site was bought in July 2012 by The Adhan Group Of Companies and a lease for part of the site was immediately given to Smart Security Shutters which left whitehead street to occupy the bigger premises. Smart Security Shutters only occupy the part of the building that would have originally housed active fire engines waiting to be called in to service at any moment, The firefighters poles have gone but the holes in the floor are still present, the rest of the building remains unoccupied and is deteriorating quickly due to lack of maintenance, vandalism, and drug use.
