Welcome to the home of Caveman Exploration
I am urban caveman, an urban explorer based in lancashire. I started this website as a way of documenting the locations I visit. While I hope you find enjoyment looking at my photos I in no way claim to be a photographer, the experience of exploring is more important to me than the photos I produce. The photos I take are never edited nor altered to look in any way different to how the location actually looks, so what you see is exactly what I saw when I visited the location.
What is urban exploration?
Urban exploration is getting out and exploring the urban environment. Most explorers head specifically for locations that are off limits or where people rarely go, this can include but is not limted to abandoned asylums, prisons, hospitals, mills, hotels, tunnels, caves, culverts, drains and sewers but it could be open areas, parks, city centres, basically any urban environment that you could explore.
Why do I do it?
I have always had a natural curiosity for the unknown, even as a youngster I remember exploring old culverts and buildings when I was meant to be at school. I also like seeing places that the majority of people wouldn't even dream existed. Its the thrill of being somewhere your not supposed to be and the adrenaline that comes from being somewhere considered too dangerous to be. But its that curiosity that motivates me more than anything else, I want to see what is behind that wall, in that tunnel, through that opening, I want and need to explore.
So you fancy giving it a try?
So you think your interested and fancy giving it a go for yourself then please be aware that this can be an extremely dangerous hobby, in buildings you could be at risk from missing or decrepit floors or roofs, falls, exposed live electrical cables, asbestos, unsavoury people, alarms, guard dogs and even being arrested. Underground you could have to contend with poisonous gases, flash floods, cave or tunnel collapse, chemicals and a whole host of wild animals. This isn't to try and scare anyone but the risks involved are very real and if you do things wrong you could end up paying the ultimate price. I recommend that if you are serious and determined to have a go you ask friends who urbex if you can tag along or contact a group and see if you can go along with them, there are many groups on facebook aswell as forums on the internet where you could be safely introduced to this hobby and some may even be able to lend you a headlamp or pair of waders to keep you dry.
Legal stuff
While urban exploration may look interesting it is a hobby that as mentioned before carries many risks, while some of these risks are obvious others are not so easy to spot by the have a go joe. Therefore I do not recommend or encourage anyone to put themselves in any danger by attempting to try this nor do I encourage anyone to break any laws to gain access to locations.
