St Saviours
St Saviours is a 120ft long and 53 ft wide church in the small town of Bacup in Lancashire. Architect Edward Wyndham Tarn was employed in the early 1860's to design and build the church with construction completed in 1864 and the church was consecrated on the 23 january 1865. The church remained in continuous religious use until it finally closed its doors for good in december 2007. The substantial building was constructed from sandstone quarried from the local area, it became a grade 2 listed building in 1984 for its architectural and historical merit and for its group value with the adjacent vicarage and nearby Stubbylee Hall. Remarkably the church is in very good condition considering the length of time it has stood empty.
