Extwistle Hall
Extwistle Hall is a grade 2 listed building and is on the English Heritage at risk register. The hall sits high on the moors in the area of brierfield near burnley, lancashire. The land was originally owned by Kirkstall Abbey and later sold to Robert Parker in 1537 after the dissolution of the monasteries and the Parker family proceeded to build Extwistle Hall on the site sometime in the 16th century. The Parker family occupied the hall for 200 years until moving to Cuerden Hall around 1718. The Hall was remodeled sometime in the 18th century. Part of the charm of this building was its fantastic oak beams, its magnificent yorkshire grey stone roof and fine leaded windows all of which contributed to the stunning look of the hall. Today the building is no more than a ruin and would collapse if a passer by sneezed too loudly, all of the windows have been smashed, most of the stone roof has been stolen and the building is collapsing in on itself due to years of water penetration however the private owner is rumoured to be working with Blackburn based ATC Construction and Design, English Heritage and Burnley Council in an effort to return the hall to its former glory.
