Church Bank Mill
Church Bank Mill and its grand chimney was origianaly built by William Duckworth and Son in 1881 for the purpose of weaving. This continued until a company known as Mastabar Ltd took over the site in 1960. Mastabar aka Mato Industries were mainly involved in the manufacture of conveyor belt maintanance equipment. Mastabar left the premises when it moved to Blackburn as a result of downsizing. Right by the side of the leeds and Liverpool canal as it runs through the Church area of Accrington this mill offered excellent transportation opportunities to any companies operating within it. Today the mill stands derelict and poses many dangers, there are hypodermic needles scattered in places along with areas of asbestos among other things. This site also has on site security with dogs so any visit should be approached with caution.
