Burnley Empire Theatre
Burnley Empire Theatre originally opened on the 29th of October 1894, it was originally built to seat 1,935 people. It was taken over in 1909 by James Pringle when films were also added to the entertainment on offer. In 1911 the auditorium underwent some major reconstruction, reopening in September 1911. The empire closed in june 1955 but was reopened in December of the same year by Buxton Cinemas. The theatre finally closed for good in 1995 and has decayed steadily ever since. Today this site is an accident waiting to happen, the roof is caving in at places and most of the floor will not hold much weight. it would take a huge amount of renovation work for this building to ever be considered usable again.
